Course Information

Supply Chain Management (SCM) involves optimising operations to maximise both speed and efficiency. It influences the ability to satisfy customer expectations and achieve a competitive advantage. SCM determines the effectiveness and efficiency with which ordering, production, storage, and distribution activities are handled. Due to the vital role SCM plays within organisations, employers seek employees with abundant SCM skills and knowledge.

SCM impacts customer service by ensuring the right product assortment and quantity are delivered in a timely fashion. For instance, developing a more efficient supply chain allows us to deliver orders faster to customers. All else being equal, customers will choose the company that meets their needs the fastest, giving a competitive advantage in the industry.

In addition to customer satisfaction, effective SCM also reduces inventory costs, provides a better medium for information sharing between partners, maintains better trust between partners, offers efficient manufacturing strategies, improves process integration, enhances the bottom line, increases cash flows, improves quality, and provides a higher profit margin. For these reasons, supply chain management has become a crucial topic in business and strategic management issues.
